LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens Sets

Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens was the beginning of a new era of movies in the Star Wars franchise. With over a decade since the last movie from the Prequel Trilogy came out and the brand new ownership over Lucasfilm, the whole world was anticipating the release of the movie.

For every new movie, LEGO releases an entire wave of brand new sets. The Force Awakens gave us an abundance of unique sets which we will now discuss in detail. The sets will be placed in order by set number and not from worst to best or vice versa. I will, of course, give you my thoughts on why some sets are better than others but this, of course, does not mean that they will match your personal choices.

75099 Rey’s Speeder

One of the cooler small sets from the Force Awakens line was 75099 Rey’s Speeder. While the set was not something grand or too impressive, we have to admit that it is perfectly movie accurate.

The coolest part from this set has to be the abundance of accessories and things that you can hang on the different sides of the speeder. LEGO really did a great job in giving it that scavenger feeling and the overall design is great.

75100 First Order Snowspeeder

One of the absolute best sets according to most categories was 75100 First Order Snowspeeder. This set had a great design, the minifigures were perfect, and it had an incredible price for what it was which, we all know, is quite rare.

As mentioned, the design of the Snowspeeder was great. The shape was good, the build was fun, and it came with a bunch of cool features and accessories. For example, one of the coolest things was the stud-shooter cannons on each side that allowed you to spin and shoot them as if they were machine guns.

The minifigure selection was nothing unique, of course, but it made the set great for army building purposes. It included two regular Snowtroopers and a Snowtrooper Officer that was literally the same but with a red pauldron.

All in all, this was definitely one of the most complete sets from the Force Awakens line. The design was spot on, it presented a lot of playability features, and it even came with wheels on the bottom which made it even easier to play with.

75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter

The 75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter is easily the best TIE fighter set to ever be released. The design here was great and LEGO made it incredibly sturdy and stable which was a problem with some of the older Imperial versions.

The color scheme here is great with the red and black accents next to the grey color. The cockpit was also very well-designed with an awesome coloration. It was also quite spacious and you could fit two minifigures inside.

The other incredible feature of this set was the large minifigure selection. Normally, TIE Fighter sets get no more than two included but here, we got an additional First Order Officer and a Crew Member as ground forces.

75102 Poe Dameron’s X-Wing Starfighter

In a universe so abundant with vehicles and ships, the X-Wing is one of the biggest fan-favorites of all time. I am sure all of us were sure that there would be brand new X-Wings for the Resistance and I must say that I, personally, was not dissatisfied.

Set 75102 was the first of many X-Wings sets we got for the new trilogy lines and it was Poe’s personal ship. Honestly, the black and orange color variation really made this iconic starfighter look amazing and the set was great overall build with plenty of different bricks.

The design was on point beside the colors. The building process was fun and not too repetitive, and the final result is, as I mentioned, incredible. The minifigure selection was also good. I enjoyed adding the different Resistance minifigures to my collection.

75103 First Order Transporter

Honestly, none of the First Order and Resistance vehicles can beat the good old Republic era ships and vehicles but I was definitely excited for the 75103 First Order Transporter.

First of all, this thing looked too beastly to me for the piece count that was confirmed. Then, it had a total of seven incredible minifigures that further made it a perfect set for me. Overall, the only problem I had with this one was that it was too expensive to get more than one or two of it.

This perfect army building set included a total of five First Order minifigures including Captain Phasma which always seemed like a cool character but after the events of The Last Jedi, I consider a character with wasted potential.

Although the design of the set was great, I feel like LEGO could have made the transporter slightly more elongated to make it absolutely accurate. Nevertheless, I do believe this was a great set and a great build for this piece count.

You can fit a total of four minifigures in the interior of the set at their respective seats. You also have a separate location for the pilot or driver and an area for a gunner at the top. All in all, only the price could have been slightly lower but I understand that the abundance of minifigures gave LEGO an excuse to inflate it.

75104 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle

Despite having some major issues, the 75104 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle was an outstanding set and a true beauty of a LEGO set. It had an amazing design, a great sturdy build, and an amazing minifigure selection.

The problems with this set are the following. First of all, the set we received lacked some of the main features of the actual ship from the movie that followed a few months later. Then, the color was completely off from what we saw in the movie which was pitch black. But you know, the Sequel Trilogy really made it a tradition to reshoot and change things in the last moments, right.

Nevertheless, I believe this ship looks awesome as it is in grey even though LEGO comes back with an accurate black version in the wave available on Triple Force Friday 2019. The set itself was huge due to the large wings which also had the ability to conveniently fold. The interior area where Kylo Ren and his pilots would stand was also great but sadly not too spacious.

All in all, it was surprising to see Kylo Ren’s shuttle in black in the movie but that did not change my love for the set and I would still recommend it to anyone.

75105 Millennium Falcon

The largest and perhaps the best LEGO Star Wars set from the Force Awakens line was 75105 Millennium Falcon. This behemoth of a set was, of course, the most anticipated one and it is truly huge.

What made this version of the Millennium Falcon so special was the return of the original top panels that did not exist in the few latest versions. This way, the Falcon looked way more movie-accurate and was something that most fans were anxious to see in LEGO form. Each of these panels could be individually lifted off to reach the interior which was incredibly detailed.

Besides that, the minifigure selection was awesome. We got the iconic Han Solo and Chewbacca, we got Rey, Finn, and BB-8, and we got a few exclusive extras like Tasu Leech and the Kanjiclub Gang Member.

75131 Resistance Trooper Battle Pack

The 75131 Resistance Trooper Battle Pack was the best battle pack we received in the Force Awakens line of sets. You will understand why when you get to the First Order Battle Pack a few lines down.

Overall, I found the Resistance Trooper Battle Pack to be exactly what fans would expect from this type of set. It had the correct selection of minifigures for an army building set – three regular soldiers and one officer, unlike the next battle pack we will discuss.

In addition, the small speeder that was included had a great design which is something rare for a battle pack. Unfortunately, you cannot fit all the minifigures at the same time but that does not change the fact that it had a good design.

75132 First Order Battle Pack

The 75132 First Order Battle Pack was one of the most anticipated sets from the wave. I feel like most serious collectors love building armies and the first battle pack for the newly introduced First Order was something everyone was expecting.

Unfortunately, like most LEGO Star Wars battle packs in recent years, the minifigure selection in this one was also not as good as we were hoping. I believe that the addition of two types of Officer minifigures was simply a waste and a bad decision by LEGO.

Simply said, this battle pack is not such a good army building set as, for example, the 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack was over a decade ago in 2008.  After all, there is just two regular stormtrooper in this battle pack.

Nevertheless, the First Order Battle Pack was not a bad set in general if you do not have an army building interest.

75139 Battle on Takodana

Next up, we have set 75139 which had a weird name for what the actual set was – Battle on Takodana. In general, it was a great play set with some cool features like the falling three and the falling wall pieces but it did not give any signs of a battle scene.

It is true that there are minifigures from both fighting sides but not the ones you would expect a thrilling battle from. Perhaps they should have added Rey next to Finn which would have made the name more suitable.

Nevertheless, it is the first set that had Maz Kanata in it and her minifigure was simply incredible. Overall, the minifigure selection was great with Kylo Ren and a couple of First Order Stormtroopers.

75140 Resistance Troop Transport

In all honesty, 75140 Resistance Troop Transport entirely resembles the old B-Wing but looks like a buffed version. Nevertheless, the set we got was well designed and presented all the main features of the actual ship.

If you open the two top pieces of the Resistance Troop Transport, you will see the small interior section that really does not have much to offer apart from the two chairs in the middle. Nevertheless, you can play with it and keep your minifigures inside.

The set also has a small loading ramp that allows you to walk minifigures up and down or maybe lift up cargo. The cockpit on the side was very well-designed and also had a bunch of cool stickers included.

The focal point of this set was definitely the minifigure selection. LEGO could have included an additional resistance trooper, to be honest, the minifigures of Princess Leia and Admiral Ackbar were more than decent.

75148 Encounter on Jakku

The common opinion about this set is that it is a bit overpriced. While this is absolutely true if you look at its price per piece, 75148 Encounter on Jakku is actually a very well-designed set that is absolutely worth your money.

Years back, this type of sets were quite rare and probably wouldn’t have been as successful as today. To start off, the buildable Luggabeast included in the set was very well designed and nearly the same as in the movie. You can, of course, put Teedo on its back like in the movie.

The Jakku building or structure you get also has a great design and comes up with a few awesome features. If I remember correctly, it represents a few different scenes and locations on Jakku from the movie like the entrance to the village on Jakku where Rey goes to work but, of course, much smaller.

You also get the window behind which Unkar Plutt stays and accepts the collected goods in return to food. Overall, you get a lot of small accessories and features that resemble different scenes from the movie which makes it an awesome play set.

75149 Resistance X-Wing Fighter

The second X-Wing we received in 2016 was the original Resistance X-Wing Fighter and not Poe’s. While it maybe was too soon for another variant of this ship, it did look pretty amazing in the blue and grey color scheme.

As for the model, it is absolutely identical to Poe Dameron’s X-Wing from 2015 with the colors being the single difference. The design was absolutely the same and there was nothing different in the building process.

Overall, it was another great X-Wing set that could have been postponed for a year or two but, nevertheless, worth the money, especially with the great minifigure selection.

75166 First Order Transport Speeder Battle Pack

After reviewing the two previous battle packs from this line of sets, I can finally say this: Now this is a good battle pack!

We discussed how the minifigure selection for most of the recent battle backs has been pretty bad and unworthy. Well here, I believe LEGO hit the jackpot and created the perfect First Order army building set.

It included two stormtroopers and an officer but the main surprise here was that amazing flametrooper which, previously, was pretty hard to get for cheap. It was wonderful from LEGO to include this minifigure in a battle pack and this was an overall great upgrade from the original First Order Battle pack we discussed above.

75178 Jakku Quadjumper

Next up, we have 75178 Jakku Quadjumper which I consider was not a necessary set to be released but was genuinely surprised by how good it actually was.

Before anything else, the minifigure selection for this set was great and larger than you would expect having the lack of minifigures in larger set in recent years. Next up, LEGO did a great job with the blow-up feature for the set that imitates the actual scene from the movie.

Other than that, the build was fun and not too repetitive, and the final ship looked great. Nevertheless, a vehicle that had about 20 seconds of screen time was absolutely unnecessary, in my opinion, but it wouldn’t have had the same success if LEGO had decided to release it a few years later, for example.

75180 Rathar Escape

The main issue most fans had with this set was its price. With this being one of the only negatives, the 75180 Rathar Escape was an incredible set that perfectly depicted one of the cool scenes from The Force Awakens.

Aside from being a great play set, the minifigure selection here was definitely unique and exclusive. Other than Han Solo and Chewbacca, all the minifigures exist only for this particular set. The Guavian Security Soldiers were incredible and the Rathars were cool enough when made out of bricks.

The second problem I and most fans had with this set was that moving it was slightly inconvenient. Each section of the set is separate so if you had to move it, you would have to do it section by section. Other than that, I absolutely loved the set and would recommend it to any collector.

75236 Duel on Starkiller Base

The latest The Force Awakens set was released in 2019 as part of the new sub-category of small LEGO Star Wars sets that aimed towards recreating small scenes from the movies.

All in all, these sets were not met with the greatest interest.  After all, their targeted audience was the youngest generation. Nevertheless, this small set had a great price for its piece count and two minifigures – Rey and Kylo Ren.

It is still the cheapest way to get the two main characters from the Sequel trilogy in LEGO and an overall good set for kids. It recreates the fighting scene in the forest on Starkiller Base where Rey beats Kylo.

Overall, the set has a couple of small play features but is nothing too impressive. Good for its price but practically pointless unless you have a kid or want the two characters for cheap.

Final Thoughts

Time will probably pass before we see any other The Force Awakens set or old ones remade. Honestly, it will not be hard to make a choice for a favorite one with this wave – the old school Millenium Falcon easily grabbed the top position for most fans.

While this entire wave (without the last set from 2019) is retired, they can still be found at relatively good prices. If you missed one or a few that you very much wanted, hurry up as their prices will inflate with each passing year.
